Alan Hodson

Chairman of Special Trustees
Mr Alan Charles Hodson

Alan has a long history of working as a volunteer for the charity and became a trustee in August 2007. Formerly he was global head of equities and a member of UBS Investment Bank Executive Committee. He is now a partner in Mill Street Asset Management, on the advisory board of Norges Bank Investment Management and is the chairman of BlackRock Commodities Income Investment Trust.  He is also a director of SRM Global Fund and is a trustee of the Roundhouse Trust and the Funding Network.  Alan serves on the Investment Committee and the General Purposes Committee and became chairman of Great
Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity special trustees in April 2008.

John Ballard

Mr John Ballard

John first joined the charity as an associate trustee in April 1992 and was appointed as a special trustee in April 2000, becoming chairman of the charity in July 2006 until March 2008, when he stepped down. He serves on the Property and Development Committee and the General Purposes Committee. Formerly Mr Ballard was a senior civil servant in the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and is now on the Steering Board for the Marine and Fisheries Agency. He is also a non-exec director of Northern Ireland Water and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust and a governor of Brooklands School.

Susan Burns

Ms Susan Burns

Susan joined the charity in August 2007 and serves on the General Purpose Committee. Formerly Mrs Burns was involved in electroencephalograph and radioisotope scanning at University College Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has trained and taught dyslexic children at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and worked as a gallery lecturer and guide at the British Museum. In more recent years Mrs Burns has been a trustee of the Royal Academy and was involved in the patron’s scheme at the Tate Gallery.

Ms Diana Dunstan

Diana was appointed as a special trustee of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity in June 2008 and serves on the General Purposes Committee. She recently retired from the role of Director of Research Management for the Medical Research Council (MRC) where she had also held a number of other posts, including Assistant Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge. Prior to that she was a Non Executive Director of Hertfordshire Health Authority and a Trustee of the Gray Cancer Institute. She has represented the UK on the Governing Councils of the International Agency for Cancer Research and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. She is the current Chair of the General Assembly of the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership - an organisation funded by the EU and supported by 16 EU Member States to speed up the introduction of new and better treatments, diagnosis and prevention strategies for Malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS in sub Saharan Africa.

 

Richard Glynn

Mr Richard Glynn 

Richard first joined the charity as a special trustee in April 2000 and served on the Investment Committee.  Currently he serves on the General Purposes Committee and is chairman of the Audit and Remuneration Committee. Mr Glynn is a director of many commercial companies including Sporting Index Limited for which he holds the role of chairman.

 

Mr George Jenkins

George was appointed as a special trustee of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity in June 2008 and serves on the Audit and Remuneration Committee. He is Chairman of East Kent University Hospitals Trust, one of the larger UK Hospital Trusts with 5 Hospitals and 22 Healthcare centres and is currently Interim Chairman of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He is Deputy Chairman of the NHS Blood and Transplant Special Health Authority, an NHS support organisation that runs a number of large divisions, including the National Blood Service. In the commercial sector George has a portfolio of Non Executive roles including Board membership of the Port of Dover, the busiest roll on roll off ferry port in the world. Prior to moving to NED roles George spent a career in manufacturing and international supply chain management at Director and CEO level.

Hugo Llewelyn

Mr Hugo William John Llewelyn 

Hugo joined the charity as a special trustee in August 2007 and serves on the Investment Committee and the Property and Development Committee. Mr Llewelyn is a partner in Protego Real Estate Investors LLP and is a trustee and treasurer of the West London Churches Homeless Concern Charity.

Mr David Elms

David joined the charity as an associate trustee in November 2002 and serves on the Audit and Remuneration Committee. Mr Elms is a partner at KPMG.

 

  

 

Gary Steinberg

Mr Gary Steinberg

Gary joined the charity in November 2002 and is chairman of the Investment Committee.  Gary Steinberg has worked in the investment management business for 30 years.  He has held senior executive positions in some of the biggest international funds in the UK including the BP Pension Fund and the Wellcome Trust.  He is currently working as an investment consultant and serves on the board of SVG Capital PLC, a private equity company.

Mr Andrew Fane

Andrew joined the charity as an associate trustee in 1994, was appointed as a special trustee in October 1996, and was chairman of the charity from September 1999 until March 2007. He is also a non-executive director of Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust where he chairs the Audit Committee. He was on many of the charity’s sub committees and was chairman of the charity’s trading company until February 2008. He was a trustee of the Jeans for Genes charity and is chair of the two charities serving UCL Institute of Child Health.

Mr Michael Weston

Michael joined the charity as an associate trustee in October 2007 and serves on the Investment Committee.  Mr Weston is Managing Director of Citi Alternative Investments. Prior to this Michael worked for Morgan Stanley for over 20 years.

Ms Gabrielle Abbott

Gabrielle joined the Charity as an associate trustee in September 2008 and serves on the Property and Development Committee. Mrs Abbott was formerly a real estate partner in Clifford Chance LLP and is chair of the Membership and Standards Committee of Citizens Advice.
