Bethany, age 8

Bethany

Bethany was born with Primary Female Epispadias, a condition that made her incontinent. Her parents first noticed the symptoms when she began potty training and after doing some research, they asked their local doctor to refer her to Great Ormond Street Hospital. The children’s hospital is one of only two locations in the country that specialise in this condition.

Consultants at Great Ormond Street Hospital were able to confirm her diagnosis and when Bethany was three years old, she underwent surgery to give her control of her bladder. This significantly increased her quality of life.  Bethany had a major operation last year to make her fully continent and now attends Great Ormond Street Hospital for annual check ups, which she really looks forward to.

Bethany’s family has been able to stay at Weston House, the patient hotel at Great Ormond Street Hospital which accommodates families who have to travel long distances.  Keen fundraisers, Beth and her family organised a sponsored ‘Seaside Stroll’ in Swansea this summer, raising over £2000.
