Hannah

As a toddler, Hannah was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a disease which caused her heart to swell to twice its size.

Professor Magdi Yacoub transplanted a 'piggy-back' heart to work alongside her own heart when she was two-years-old. But in February 2006, when her body rejected the donor organ, the Professor came out of retirement to remove the failing extra and reconnect her original heart.

The risky procedure was carried out at GOSH, and was a total success. Hannah recovered so well she was home after just five days.
