Meet some of our patients
Harriet
14-year-old Harriet lost her smile after being knocked over by a car in Hockley, Essex in 2004.
"When I was 12, I was hit by a car which left me in a coma on life support in intensive at GOSH with lots of injuries including a skull fracture, broken collar bone, severed ear, many cuts and bruises, damaged hearing and facial paralysis. I lost my smile which we all value and take for granted.
"My treatment included hundreds of hours of specialist physiotherapy along with over six hours of neurosurgery to repair my damaged nerves which were causing facial paralysis. I now have my smile back but have lost 35% of my hearing in my left ear. I thank the staff at GOSH for saving me and for all the treatment and care they gave me."
Harriet appeared on ITV's This Morning show as the Face Of Courage for National Smile Week after her amazing recovery. And she reported on the Peter Pan Awards 2006 for children's newspaper First News.
