Meet some of our patients
Mike
Mike comes to GOSH three times a week for haemodialysis. For four hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays his blood is filtered by a machine that does the work of his kidneys, removing waste products and excess water from his body.
"It does get a bit tedious sometimes," he says.
Haemodialysis doesn’t stop him from doing other things he loves, though – like playing football, riding his bike and honing his IT skills. Mike has been on the waiting list for a kidney transplant for three years. He is one of 13 children and young people who come to GOSH each week for haemodialysis.
