For the past few years Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity has been proud and lucky to be the official charity of the Silverstone British Grand Prix. Every year, thanks to the generosity of Formula One Management, a number of GOSH patients and their families are given exclusive access to team garages, meet and greet sessions with F1 drivers and open access to the team paddock area at Silverstone. In addition to this, charity collectors give up their time to volunteer and walk around the length and breadth of Silverstone, and in 2007 raised a staggering £25,000!
2007 also saw the charity hold the second ever official launch party, held by kind permission of Bernie Ecclestone, to the 2007 Formula One™ Santander British Grand Prix which was kindly sponsored by Santander. This year the party raised over £350,000 and was attended by a host of celebrities and Formula One stars such as Tess Daly and Vernon Kaye, Thandie Newton and Lewis Hamilton, Ron Dennis, Heiki Kovailainen, Ron Dennis and Bernie Ecclestone plus many more!
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s involvement with the world of Formula One goes from strength to strength, and in total has helped us raise well over £500,000 towards the redevelopment of our new Heart and Lung centre.
