Disney has partnered with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to raise £10 million towards the hospital’s amazing redevelopment appeal. Disney will help fund a new café, restaurant and Disney Interactive Area for the patients and families.

The Disney appeal

Disney is working with the charity to raise money to help fund the construction of a new restaurant, café and Disney Interactive Area. The restaurant area will be brought to life by Disney Imagineers and will offer a welcoming relaxation area to be enjoyed by patients, families, visitors and staff.

All of us at Disney hope this donation and fundraising effort helps ensure that Great Ormond Street Hospital continues to deliver the quality compassionate care for which it is rightly known.

Background

Our partnership with Disney was launched formally in January 2008 with an aim to raise £10 million towards the hospital’s redevelopment appeal, specifically to help build the restaurant and café area for the patients and families.

An initial donation of £1 million to mark the beginning of the appeal was made by Robert Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company to Dr. Jane Collins, Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Prior to this formal partnership, Disney has actually been supporting the work of the hospital in many different ways for over 70 years.

Partnership activity

The Disney Appeal works across all of the Disney businesses including film, theatrical, the Disney Store and Home Entertainment to raise funds for and awareness of the fundraising appeal. We support Disney cast members and engage them with their own fundraising plans.

For all Disney does to brighten the lives of children around the world, we are especially pleased to help create a warm and inviting atmosphere for the seriously ill children in the care of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Some of the ways in which Disney is supporting us include:

  • awareness and experiences at film and theatre premieres

  • cause related product marketing and licensing

  • joint events

  • employee volunteering

  • arranging for the world-famous Disney characters and talent to visit our patients

The team spirit was fantastic and I can honestly say that I smiled and laughed beginning to end!  It was one of the most worthwhile experiences of my life and I would encourage anyone to undergo a challenge, big or small, for not only the personal achievement but for an amazing cause.  I’m so pleased to have had the chance to be part of the Disney Snowdon Challenge!
