Towergate Partnership has selected Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity as one of the main beneficiary charities of the Towergate Charitable Foundation.
History
Towergate Partnership, Europe’s largest independently owned insurance intermediary, selected the charity as one of the main beneficiary charities of the Towergate Charitable Foundation in January 2008. Since then The Foundation, working with the clients and staff of Towergate Partnership, have donated over £199,000 to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
Client donations
Towergate businesses around the UK have been asking clients to include a £3 donation on all policy renewals; these donations are then paid into the Towergate Charitable Foundation and distributed between the beneficiary charities.
Staff fundraising
Staff from around the UK have been living up to the Towergate mantra of ‘Having fun, Doing Good’ by fundraising for the charity through payroll giving and office based activities, treks and challenges and employee run events.
Some of the fantastic activities which have taken place to date include:
-
a 147 mile, coast to coast, bike ride by Keith Hacker from Towergate Risk Solutions, Kettering
-
a 3 peaks challenge organised by Lindsey Prince at Towergate Maidstone
-
Peter LeBreton, Sonia Hodge, Steve Oakley from Towergate Sevenoaks organised and completed a Skydive
-
David Partington and Joe Lawrence completed the 2009 Flora London Marathon
-
Michael Gillingham undertook a London to Paris cycle tour
-
Ricky Florenza helped raise money through a number of projects, including a scribble pad and an auction with prizes being donated by local business
The Foundation very generously matches all employee fundraising pound for pound.
What is Towergate funding?
In August 2009 Towergate raised the amount needed to entirely fund two single isolation rooms in Great Ormond Street Hospital’s cardiac unit. These rooms are essential for treating the hospital’s most vulnerable patients by cutting the risk of post operative infections and will be a true legacy to the dedication and hard work of Towergate’s staff and customers.
All funds raised for the remainder of the partnership will be supporting Dr Nick Goulden’s research project which looks at tackling leukaemia early with refined therapies targeted to fight minimal disease.
This pioneering project will use the latest genetic technology to measure tiny levels of disease in children with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).
Knowing exactly how much disease is present will allow doctors to target the most intensive treatment specifically to those patients who need it the most. It will also allow treatment to be started earlier – tackling the disease at a point when it is less likely to have taken hold.
