Camp Rock Premiere

The Disney Channel hosted the European Premiere of Camp Rock on Wednesday 10 September at The Royal Festival Hall and kindly invited five Great Ormond Street Hospital families to the all singing and dancing spectacular.

This was a fantastic treat for all the families who not only got to be one of the first to see the film in Europe but also walked down the purple carpet with many stars as well as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. They were then all treated to a star studded barbeque and attended the after-show party, which included a one-off, up close and personal performance by the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato.

Disney Fairy Wings Auction
8-18 September

Fairy Wings designed by celebrities such as pop star Leona Lewis and the Duchess of York are being auctioned on eBay to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

As part of Disney’s partnership with the charity, Disney has invited celebrities to sprinkle a bit of fairy dust and customise a set of wings. Tess Daly and Vernon Kay, Nicole Farhi and members of the cast of Eastenders are among the celebrities and designers who have decorated a pair of wings by hand.

I loved the idea of the Disney Fairy Wing Auction and was really pleased to be able to help and contribute to such a great cause. Great Ormond Street Hospital obviously does such an important job and the Disney Fairy Wings are a really fun way to raise money for such an admirable charity. I'll keep my fingers crossed on the 8 September that lots of people bid for my wings on the Disney Fairies eBay page - I'd love to see them raise something for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. Leona Lewis

The Disney store

The Walt Disney Company continues its support for Great Ormond Street Hospital with a Disney store contribution

31 March 2008

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse have visited Great Ormond Street Hospital to celebrate a Disney Store donation of thousands of pounds worth of products to the Hospital through a variety of in-kind gifts and fundraising schemes.

The donation will be made in stages over a year-long period and will directly benefit hundreds of children. Earlier this year, The Walt Disney Company announced that it would join forces with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to raise £10 million towards the Hospital’s capital appeal. This will represent the largest of many charitable partnerships by The Walt Disney Company outside the United States. The world’s leading entertainment company will fully leverage its business, its workforce and its much loved characters in support of this world class hospital. A range of unique and exciting fundraising opportunities will be created through Disney’s films, TV shows, theme parks and products in this unprecedented cross company campaign.

Disney favourites Mickey and Minnie joined Teresa Tideman, Joint MD of The Disney Store Ltd, accompanied by Sir Stuart Rose, CEO of Marks & Spencer, when they visited the hospital to meet with Dr. Jane Collins, CEO of Great Ormond Street to kick off the year-long project of support including:

  • Children’s drawing competition to win Disney Store vouchers
  • Gifts for Friends of Great Ormond Street Hospital recruitment drive
  • Disney Store goody bags for children staying at the hospital
  • A wide selection of Disney CDs donated which will act as prizes for on air competitions at Great Ormond Street’s radio station, Radio Lollipop

In January 2008, at Retail Trust’s annual fundraising ball, Disney Store pledged the Great Ormond Street Hospital donation which was matched by a donation from Sir Stuart Rose to the Retail Trust, the national charity for the retail industry. The charity is dedicated to providing support and advice to people who work or who have worked in the retail industry.

Teresa Tideman commented: “The Walt Disney Company decided to go into partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital to help ensure the hospital is able to continue to deliver quality care to patients and their families. Disney Store is very proud to be supporting the Disney and Great Ormond Street Hospital partnership by donating these products to children with the most complex and life-threatening conditions in the country.”

Magical new partnership with Disney!

15 January 2008

The Walt Disney Company has been supporting the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital since 1939, when Walt Disney himself originally acquired the animation rights to the Peter Pan story. Over the last 70 years, Disney has supported the hospital in many ways including charitable donations, fundraising events such as film premieres, employee volunteering and arranging for the world-famous Disney characters to visit some of our patients in the hospital.

However, Disney is now increasing their support to a brand new level by launching this new partnership with us, which will aim to raise an invaluable £10 million towards the hospital’s much-needed redevelopment appeal. This will be the largest of the many Disney charitable partnerships outside the United States. Together we will be working on a range of unique and exciting fundraising opportunities across the wide range of Disney businesses including films, TV, theme parks, Stage shows and many product ranges.
