Frequently asked questions

Having an up-to-date Will is one of the most important things that you can do for yourself, your loved ones and the ‘good causes’ that you support.

For the majority of people having their Will written or updated is very simple.

How do I go about remembering Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity in my Will?

This can be done very simply by having the relevant clause added to your Will.  You can take this along to your solicitor on your visit.

I already have a Will, it just needs updating

If the changes are very minor this can be done using a codicil  which simply adds further instructions to the Will on a separate sheet of paper.  If you need to make many changes it is probably better to have your Will rewritten as the cost will be similar.  Your solicitor will advise you on the best option.

How much does the gift have to be to make a real difference?

Every gift can make a positive difference to the future of the hospital and although some are very large gifts the majority are not.  It is what they achieve together that makes them so appreciated and important.

Will my gift be taxed?

Gifts to charity are exempt from Inheritance Tax and this can be a way of reducing exposure of the estate to tax.

I don’t know what I’ll be worth when I die so how do I ensure that everyone gets a fair share?

This is something you can ensure when you consider the types of gift you leave.
