How to join our New York team

We are delighted to hear that you wish to support Great Ormond Street Hospital by entering the ING New York City Marathon ® 2008. Please do remember to list us on your application as your chosen charity, and remember to contact us on 020 7239 3000 or email at challenges@gosh.org with your details so that we can send you a fundraising toolkit.

As a runner on our team you will need to pay for the cost of your package yourself, but there is no minimum target to reach! And in order to help you as much as possible, some, or all, of your costs will be refunded by the charity if you manage to achieve certain fundraising targets.

Interest in this event is immense, so you should book your place as soon as possible. We look forward to helping you with your fundraising, or with any general queries you may have.

How it works

Our preferred agents are UK based 2:09 Events Limited. The packages available are either:

• Full package, including hotel accommodation, return flights and guaranteed race entry
• Flight and entry package, which allows you to organise your own accommodation

The costs of these packages are listed here. Unfortunately it is not possible to book just the guaranteed entry alone.

All packages are available on a first come, first served basis.

What to do now:

• You may either print off the booking form here on the website, or you may contact the charity and we will send an application pack to you
• We ask you to read through 2:09 Events Ltd. booking terms and conditions, then complete and return the booking form along with a cheque for the £200 deposit and £212 race entry fee (cheques made payable to 2:09 Events Ltd). Or complete the credit card payment details.to 2:09 Events Ltd.
• Please remember to list us as your chosen charity, and contact us on 020 7239 3000 or email at challenges@gosh.org to let us know that you have joined our team
• As soon as 2:09 Events Limited receive your booking form from us, they will be solely responsible for your package and its organisation, as per their enclosed booking terms and conditions
• 2:09 Events Ltd. will ask you to pay the balance of your package at least eight weeks before departure, as per their enclosed booking conditions
• We will send you a free running vest and fundraising pack, provided you have let us know that you are running in support of our charity
• At least one Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity staff member will be out in New York with you to support you on the big day, and organise a post-marathon drinks celebration on Sunday evening

A small amount of important legal information:

Neither Great Ormond Street Hospital nor Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity are in any way liable to you in connection with your travel, accommodation or participation in the event or any failure to provide the same. We are not the agents for 2:09 Events Limited.

Please remember that if you do ask people to sponsor you for the benefit of Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity you are legally obliged to hand over all monies that you collect in full to the charity without making any deduction. In particular you cannot withhold an amount equivalent to the amount you believe you may be entitled to as a refund.

All participants who receive a refund are personally liable to report and account for any tax which may be payable as a result.

When asking people to sponsor you, you must make it clear that sponsorship is for the benefit of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. You must also make it clear that you may benefit personally up to a maximum of £1,291 if you achieve certain fundraising thresholds. All sponsors must be asked to complete the details set out on the sponsorship form which we will send to you or you may do so on their behalf. You must let the charity see the sponsorship forms if and when we request. These are legal obligations under the Charities Acts and failure to comply may constitute a criminal offence.
