"Oliver was born in March 1998, and during the first few weeks of his life, we noticed that he had some worrying 'turns'.
"After a series of tests, Oliver was diagnosed as having 'Disappearing Lesion Syndrome', as sometimes the lesion could be seen clearly on the many scans he was having, but at other times it seemed not to be there at all.
"In November 2004 Oliver went back to Great Ormond Street Hospital for an operation.
Two days later, sitting up in his hospital bed, one of the first things he said was, 'Mummy, my hurt's gone!' Since he'd never complained about his condition, this was a magic moment.
"Since the removal of the lesion by the paediatric neurology team, Oliver is a different child. At school, his attention span improved and he learnt to read fluently almost overnight - he has just read his first Harry Potter book.
"His enthusiasm is unbounded: he's had cricket, hockey and football lessons, and has learnt to play chess. In his personal report at school, he selected as one of his personal targets 'to improve my tennis skills'!"
