About my donations

How will the money I raise be used?

Donations received from memorial pages will help us to pay for more life-saving equipment for children who are critically ill, more beds so parents can stay close by, and ground-breaking research to give sick children a brighter future.

My friends and family want to support, but do not want to donate online?

Friends and family who would rather donate by post or over the phone are welcome to do so. We can accept cheque, CAF vouchers or credit card donations.

Please ensure cheques and CAF vouchers are made out to GOSHCC.

Also, ask your friends and family to include details of who the donation is in memory of, together with the name of your memorial page, so that we can ensure their donation is added to your tribute total.

Can you claim the Gift Aid back on donations raised?

During each transaction your friends and family will be asked if they are happy for us to claim Gift Aid on their donations.

UK tax payers can give 25p more for every £1 they have donated at absolutely no cost to themselves, simply by ticking the Gift Aid box when making their donation.

About registration and creating my page

What happens to my data?

We are conscious of our responsibilities as a data controller under the Data Protection Act 1998. We shall endeavour to ensure that the personal information we obtain and use will always be held, used, transferred and otherwise processed in accordance with that Act, and all other applicable data protection laws and regulations.

Please see our privacy policy for more information on this.

Why are you asking me for information about the person who the memorial page is for?

As a charity we really value every one of our supporters and want to to ensure that we are communicating with them in an appropriate way.

If the person whose life you are celebrating supported the charity, then we want to ensure their name is removed from our database to prevent us mailing them in error in the future.

Specific events

Do you offer plaque recognition?

No, unfortunately we cannot offer this service as it is not practical to have plaques in a working hospital.

Due to the deep cleaning of equipment and rooms in the hospital, we cannot guarantee a plaque will stay in place.

Can I visit the children in the hospital and on the wards?

As you can appreciate, our patients are very ill and, for various reasons including infection control, it would not be possible for you to visit the wards and meet the children.

We do have a number of case studies on our website where you can see some of the children in our care and who are from benefiting from your support.

Can a member of charity staff attend my event?

Unfortunately we are not able to attend every fundraising event, although we do endeavour to attend as many as we can depending on the location and nature of the event.

Please call us on 020 7239 3002 or email us at inmemory@gosh.org to discuss your event requirements.

You may like to use our Building a Brighter Future film at your event, which provides a virtual tour of the hospital, and shows how your fundraising will make a difference.

Can you organise a cheque presentation for me?

We would love to welcome you to the hospital for a short tour or cheque presentation. If you raise over £10k, you will be mentioned in our annual report.

We are also always looking for case studies to encourage other supporters, so if you have a particular story and photos you would like to share with us, then do let us know.

I am fundraising for a restricted item, will donations that are given via JustGiving still be allocated in this way?

All of the money that you have already raised online or offline will be allocated as requested. This will not change at all and all gifts given via JustGiving will be allocated in the same way.

How much of what is raised is being spent on charges to JustGiving?

As with any service, we do have to pay a small fee for JustGiving to process your kind gifts. As a charity we have shopped around and believe we have found the most cost effective way of providing the best customer care and ease of service to you.

JustGiving charge charities a small monthly fee, plus a minimal fee on each donation, including Gift Aid, made through the site. These fees are reinvested back into making JustGiving better for you.

Can I retrospectively change my page from a celebration to a Giving in Memory page?

Unfortunately, we cannot retrospectively change a page. However, it is something that JustGiving are looking into.

Does the next of kin receive a letter of acknowledgement?

The next of kin is sent a acknowledgement letter four weeks after we have received the first donation. This is to ensure we provide the most comprehensive list of donors, while also not intruding on the next of kin too frequently at such a difficult time.
