How does the money work?
You will pay an initial registration fee to Discover Adventure Ltd and this will secure your place on the challenge. As soon as you have signed up, and indicated that you have chosen to support our charity, they will let us know. You will pay the balance for the cost of the challenge directly to them using the 'Payment Option', as per their terms and conditions, and we will send you a sponsorship pack with plenty of ideas and materials to get you started with your fundraising.
We don’t set a minimum sponsorship target and we are really grateful for any money you can raise on our behalf. You can give us the money either through our online partner Justgiving, or you may send cheques directly to the charity. All of this will be explained in your sponsorship pack in greater detail.
What will the money go towards?
All monies raised on behalf of the charity through open challenges will go towards our commitment to raise £2.5 million to fund a new cardiac theatre for the hospital.
As cardiac surgery is constantly developing, the cardiac theatre of the future aims to provide the flexibility to accommodate future advances in surgical techniques, information management and teaching. The type of procedures performed will range from cardiac transplantation to keyhole surgery. Due to the amount of equipment and its size the theatre needs to be larger than a standard theatre, and the doors have to be extra wide so patients can be moved to and from the intensive care unit whilst still hooked up to bulky, but life saving, machines.
Overall, the new cardiac theatre will allow Great Ormond Street Hospital to maintain the quality of care expected of a centre of excellence, and ensure that the future vision for cardiac surgery is delivered and children needing cardiac surgery get the best care possible.
If we are lucky enough to raise anything over and above the cost of the theatre, this will go towards meeting our annual financial commitment to the hospital to raise funds for parent accommodation, research, and replacement equipment.
We really look forward to welcoming you into our team of supporters
