Raffles/Lotteries
Small raffles can be held as part of a larger event. The ticket sales and announcing of the results must be held during the event. No more than £250.00 can be spent on buying prizes and no cash prizes can be given.
Public lotteries and raffles must be registered with your local authority or the Gaming Board of Great Britain/Gambling Commission. Full guidelines for holding a public lottery are available from your local authority or the Gaming Board; these must be followed in full. Licensing
Licenses are required for any of the following activities:
- Music and Dancing including live music
- Provision of Food and Drink
- Alcohol Sales
- Extended hours
- Copyright and royalties for drama and film shows
- Collecting money or selling goods in a public place e.g. store collections.
Please note we can only authorise public collections in aid of Great Ormond Street from registered groups e.g. Rotary Clubs or companies.
We do not authorise door to door collections.
Contact your local authority to obtain licenses and for further details. Please send us copies of any licences obtained prior to your event. Some venues for hire will have these licences in place and you will need to adhere to their guidelines.
If your event is taking place on private property you will need the permission from the land owner.
Your Safety
…..is of paramount importance to us – although we cannot take responsibility for your welfare at your event. Please ensure that you follow all safety instructions and training procedures when participating in events. If you are organising your own event please ensure that you have all necessary safety procedures in place (for example, cycle helmets and high visibility clothing for sponsored bike rides) and that all participants are aware of them. If you are holding a public event (for example a fun day) you will need to contact your local council to speak to their Health & Safety representative.
Expenses
Try to keep expenses to a minimum – Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity cannot be responsible for the expenses incurred in the course of organising an event (we advise a maximum of 1 part expense to 3 parts income). You may take out reasonable expenses from the income of your event – receipts must be kept for your own security. It is advisable to keep accounts of all donations and expenses. Please ensure that all monies are counted in the presence of a witness.
Company Approaches
If you are approaching national or international companies for sponsorship, prizes, or auction items please do let us know. It is a good idea to contact local businesses as they are often happy to help with local fundraising events.
Gift Aid
We are able to reclaim tax on donations we receive from individuals- this includes sponsorship. Please see the relevant box on the sponsor forms.
After your event
We ask that you collect all funds together and then send it to us in one payment.
Details of how to pay your monies to us are available in our free Fundraising Toolkit once you have registered your fundraising here!
