About the appeal

Theatres for Theatres is an appeal which aims to engage the theatre and performing arts communities to help us fund the future of the operating theatres at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Our need

Approximately 38 per cent of children at GOSH will require some form of surgery as part of their treatment. The hospital performs nearly 18,000 operations each year on our young patients. As medical advances continue, we expect that we will need to treat increasingly smaller and sicker children with complex medical needs.

To support our surgeons and clinical staff in continuing to deliver world class care, we need to ensure that the facilities we provide truly match their skills and expertise.

Making a difference

Our challenge is to build and equip a suite of new operating theatres situated in our new clinical building, which is due to open in 2017.

The new state-of-the-art theatres will be used to support fast and safe surgery and to minimise the amount of time that a patient is under aesthetic. Their design and layout will mean we can also improve efficiency to help us cope with increasing demand on services.

We can only continue our work with the generosity and support of people like you. There are plenty of ways you can get involved with the appeal and help us raise the funds we need for our patients. You can also find out more about some of the children who have already benefited from our work and how your support is making a difference.
