How you are helping

Equipment

Replacing old equipment with new, modern equipment. Find more about the types of equipment we fundraise for.

Accommodation

Providing accommodation for parents, so that a parent can sleep next to their child or so the family can stay nearby. Find out more about our fundraising for patient and family support.

Research

The hospital works very closely with the Institute of Child Health (ICH) to conduct research into children’s illnesses. Find out more about our pioneering research.

How your money could be spent:

  •  £25 -  a toy specially designed for a child with special needs

  • £400 - an enteral feeding pump, which is used to help children who can’t digest food properly. Parents are allowed to borrow this machine so that the children can receive their treatment at home

  • £125 - letting a parent stay with their child during a stay of one week (the average time children stay at the hospital)

  • £1,650 - a Pulse Oximeter, which is used to monitor the oxygen levels in the blood and alert staff of any change

  • £5,000 - a specially adapted bath for children with skin problems. This makes bathing easier and reduces the risk of tissue damage

  • £100,000 - the cost, for one year, of three experts researching better ways of treating sick children

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity is the charity division of the hospital, raising essential funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital and its research arm, The UCL Institute of Child Health.

Fundraising has always been an integral part of Great Ormond Street Hospital - its founder, Dr Charles West, launched the hospital in 1852 following a two-year fundraising campaign. Even in the hospital’s early years, sponsorship was a considerable source of income.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity still relies on donations and sponsorships - from big companies to people like you.

The UCL Institute of Child Health (ICH)

The Institute is the academic research institution for child health.

It undertakes scientific research in childhood diseases and aims to promote child health across the country and internationally.
