We’re asking schools to take part in the Festival of Running by holding a 1km run in school, either as a one off event or as part of a sports day to raise money for the charity.
How to take part
All you need to do is organise a 1km run as part of your usual sports day or, if you don’t have a regular sports day, hold a 1km run on its own as a lunchtime or after school activity anytime during June or July.
You could even create your own mini sports day and encourage staff and students to battle it out in a sack race or egg and spoon race! Have a look at our 1km fundraising ideas.
Register online for the 1km challenge
Register online today and we’ll send you a fundraising pack with lots of fundraising ideas, information, posters and sponsor forms.
Help us raise over £55,000
Amazing things happen at Great Ormond Street Hospital every day and the money raised by schools taking part in the Festival of Running will be helping to fund a new Heart and Lung Bypass machine used to circulate and oxygenate blood whilst children are undergoing life-saving heart and lung surgery at the hospital.
So, while your hearts are pumping with exercise you’ll be helping to get our little hearts pumping.
Why the Festival of Running is good for you
This is a perfect opportunity for you to get the whole school together to do something physical, including the staff! You could even tie in with the Healthy Schools initiative and encourage parents and friends to take part.
