Golf for GOSH

Golf days are a fantastic way to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) – for serious golfers and casual part-timers alike!

Top golf fundraising ideas

There are so many different ideas you can use to raise funds for GOSH at your golf day – from challenges, to post-play events! Here are some of our favourite ways to fundraise:

  • Get creative! Add in some course side competition to keep people engaged and have a prize-giving ceremony at the end. Some categories could be longest drive, best ball, closest to the pin, or hole in one.
  • Earn a few pounds extra for GOSH by encouraging donations for games you can play along the way. Take a poll beforehand to find out what people like – Texas scramble, fourball, or Nassau?
  • What happens afterwards can mean the difference to your total, so run a raffle or hold an auction at the lunch or dinner after the golf day – think in advance about what you should auction and where you will source the lots. You can also encourage people to donate by offering GOSH donation boxes or envelopes on the tables – get in touch with us for any promotional materials you need.
  • Have friends who can’t make it? An easy way to get donations before and after the event is to set up a Just Giving page, so there’s no reason not to give!

Could we be your Charity of the Year?

Many golf clubs support charities every year – we would love to be yours! Ongoing support from your club means that we are able to give more children at the hospital the chance of a better future. We can give you bespoke help throughout for all your events, including promotional materials, speakers, and a personalised tour of the hospital once you’ve hit your target! For more information, call us on 0203 841 3179.

Golf days are a great way to raise money for your GOSH through friends, work colleagues or within the local community, I have organised Charity golf days in aid of GOSH for the past 5 years and get a great sense of achievement from raising money for a worthy cause and bringing so many people together for a great day of fun.

Nick Martin, GOSH fundraiser

I love the thrill of organising the event. It takes a couple of months to get everything in place, working with the club to ensure everything goes smoothly. I usually have about 150 attendees and everyone really enjoys the day.

Top 5 tips to maximise your fundraising

  1. Find a company to sponsor the whole event or companies to sponsor each hole.
  2. Consider selling advertising if you’re producing a leaflet or website for the event (you could also offer an advert in return for prizes) or in the form of promotional banners around the course.
  3. Encourage your golfers to be sponsored for each round they complete or win. Download our sponsorship forms here: gosh.org/toolkit
  4. Contact local radios and newspapers to see if they’d like to cover the event. See our top tips for contacting the press and a template press release you can use: www.gosh.org/publicity. Also, please share this on social media! Tag us in tweets @GreatOrmondSt or on Facebook at facebook.com/GreatOrmondSt.
  5. If you have video equipment in the venue, we can provide you with a short film to show about the vital work GOSH does, to encourage people to dig deep.

Where your money goes

Every day, 618 children and young people from across the UK arrive. Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs.

  • £36 could pay for an hour of vital research to help save or restore a child’s sight
  • £100 could buy a special light to help babies and children relax in one of our sensory rooms
  • £1500 could buy a pump to administer things like medication or pain relief to children at GOSH.
