Nautical Nurses
Their life stories so far...
Elin Haf Davies
My twenties were spent eating, sleeping and breathing rugby. When I turned 30 I decided it was time to push my self a little harder in life!
Background:
From the beautiful village of Parc, just outside Bala in North Wales.
I left at 18 to work for Save the Children in Lesotho, Africa, and
then came to London to complete my nurse training. Twelve years later
I’m still here.
Success to date:
I played Wales A International rugby for four seasons, which was a very
important part of my life. Considering I wasn’t much of an academic
at school I’m pretty pleased that I managed a BSc and an MSc.
I’m probably one of the few that can honestly say that I love
my job.
Inspirations:
Mam and Dad. The children and families on the OGT clinical trial
and every athlete that commits their life to sport.
“Those that say that it can’t be done should stop getting in the way of those that are doing it.”
Ambitions:
To be the first Welsh girl to row across the Atlantic!
“You can take the girl out of Wales but you can’t take Wales out of the girl!”
Herdip Sidhu
Spent the last decade running, cycling and eating Granny Smith apples so thought it was time to do something different!
Background:
Born and bred Brummy lass! Thought I wanted to be a midwife but that
was before I realised how much women scream! Children are so much easier
to deal with! Everything’s gone down hill since I cycled from
Paris to London with Elin … and even worse since she moved in
to live with me!
Success to date:
Becoming the ward sister on Kingfisher, a nurse-led unit. Running the
Snowdonia marathon in 4 hours 4 minutes with no breakfast was pretty
amazing!
Inspirations:
My family and everyone that achieves against
the odds!
Motivation:
To push the boundaries!
Ambitions:
To be the first Indian (girl) to row across the Atlantic!
