12 June 2014

RBC Race for the Kids, the charity’s biggest mass participation event, enjoyed its most successful year yet with a record 6,000 runners taking part.

Patients and families joined celebrities including Fatima Whitbread MBE, Chris Hollins, Kate Thornton, Dan Lobb, Michelle Collins, Tina Hobley, Andy Akinwolere and Neil McDermott to take part in the 5k fun run in Battersea Park.

The race is expected to raise £750,000 which will go towards the hospital’s vital redevelopment, replacing cramped and outdated wards with new state-of-the-art facilities for patients and families from across the UK.

Event sponsor Royal Bank of Canada also got involved, with more than 1,300 staff, friends and family members taking part.

I’d like to say a big thank you to each and every one of our participants – whether they ran, scooted or strolled their efforts will help us provide world class facilities for very ill children from across the UK.

Tim Johnson, Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity
