It was full speed ahead for 30 Great Ormond Street Hospital patients who were Bernie Ecclestone’s VIP guests at the 2008 Formula 1™ Santander British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The patients, all fanatical about Formula 1™, were treated to a once in a lifetime experience at the Formula 1™ weekend.  They had access to all areas, witnessing the qualifying laps and races, plus seeing the inner workings of the British Grand Prix.  Further driving delights were in store with exclusive visits to the teams’ garages with the unique opportunity to meet drivers and technicians.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity was the official charity of the 2008 Formula 1™ Santander British Grand Prix and 90 volunteers turned out at Silverstone, despite the wind and the rain, over the course of the weekend to help the charity fundraise. The charity raised a massive £40,000 over the weekend thanks to the huge generosity of the F1™ community, almost doubling last year's total.

The hospital needs to raise £170 million to rebuild and transform its oldest buildings into a world class medical centre.  The ongoing relationship between Formula 1™ and the hospital is set to raise vital funds for the building of the hospital’s world-class Heart and Lung Centre.
