Author of Peter Pan in Scarlet

'It gives me a very odd feeling just thinking about it. Hundreds of thousands of people reading out words I wrote? All over the country? At the very same moment? How odd. How unlikely. ... But how fantastic if it works some magic for Great Ormond Street Hospital. I've seen what a huge affection people everywhere have for GOSH. So let's do it! What better way to blaze a brand new event - Peter Pan Day - on to the biennialcalendar: Is it written on yours yet?'.

Children's Laureate

'Peter Pan Week is a very exciting and worthwhile educational project - for a great cause. Reminding us why books and poetry are so important, the event provides teachers and adult leaders with some excellent activities for the classroom and group which tie in with many kinds of school work. Through this event your young people will rediscover that reading and listening to stories provides great pleasure. Education aside, this is an exciting and unique event for young people of all ages, as they are drawn together by a literary event, around the country, to smash a Guinness World Record.'

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity Patrons

When we were at school we would definitely have taken part in an event like this, anything that makes lessons more fun can't be bad. We'd like to encourage all children to get involved in Peter Pan Week and raise vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital. You might even end up in the Guinness Book of World Records!

It aims to help build a greater national passion for reading in England – for children, families and adult learners alike.
