16 October 2008

Award winning US playwright and Clinical Professor of Psychology, Richard Brockman’s new work received its UK premier at Jermyn Street Theatre this autumn.

The Theatres for Theatres appeal benefitted from a special Charity Gala Night on 16 October and ongoing collections on the door throughout the run of the play.

The story

Set in the cardio ward of a hospital, Informed Consent follows high flying transplant surgeon Dr Mandl on a sultry July night in New York.  A girl with a failing heart lays critically ill in desperate need of a donor when a young boy arrives brain dead from an accident.

A small circle of adults hold these young lives in their hands – they can provide Informed Consent.  Mandl has the power to save the life if only he is given the permission.  When salvation comes from a very surprising source, in order to heal both himself and his patient he is forced to perform the hardest operation of his life.

Informed Consent is a tale of wounded hearts and second chances when every decision is a matter of life and death.
