The new Heart and Lung Centre will provide care for children referred from across the UK and abroad within spacious, modern inpatient and day wards and state-of-the-art operating theatres.
The overall hospital experience will be improved significantly by providing:
- an environment sensitive to the needs of patients and their families as well as staff
- space to accommodate families comfortably by their child’s bedside
- wards designed in soothing and child-friendly styles
- toys and entertainment to stimulate and educate the children
The new facilities will bring together medical and surgical care with scientific research, enabling laboratory findings to be rapidly translated into new treatments for immediate patient benefit.
A suite of catheter laboratories linked to the latest magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facilities will further develop non-invasive treatments.
