Why I joined the Tick Tock Club
In the run-up to my 50th birthday, my wife asked for present ideas. I couldn’t think what to suggest. My business had grown into the UK’s biggest independent toy and gift product developer. I had a nice car, nice house, we went on nice holidays, I had a great set of golf clubs...

And then it came to me. I thought I’ve got everything I need - I’m in a position to give something back. How about joining the Tick Tock Club? Instantly it felt the right thing to do.
I am a trustee of a toy industry charity and we had already signed up as a charity for three years. I had been on a tour of the hospital and it was clear that some facilities were woefully inadequate.
As a parent, the first thing that hits you is 'crikey, it could be me sitting there', and the least parents and children deserve is a decent environment.
So my wife and I joined the club on a personal basis and it’s been one of the most rewarding and gratifying things we have ever done. It’s been a big commitment but I have never doubted the decision.
Socially, it’s been great to see friends and we have met some very nice people - including medical staff who have been charming and inspirational. It’s good to not just sign a cheque - but to be more involved, and understand what’s being done with the money. It feels that the Tick Tock Club has made a real difference.
