We are pleased to confirm that Stanton Williams has been appointed as the architect for the Zayed Centre for Children’s Rare Disease Research, and that other members of the design team, including structural and mechanical engineers, have now been appointed.
Stanton Williams demonstrated the greatest suitability for the scheme, with extensive team experience on similar proposals to the Zayed Centre for Children’s Rare Disease Research. They showed a strong understanding of the objectives of the project, including addressing the need for a sustainable approach and working within the constraints of the site’s location in a sensitive conservation area.

The design team at Stanton Williams has already worked together to deliver the Sainsbury Laboratory, the Stirling Prize winning plant science research centre at the University of Cambridge. Other projects include the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank (significantly supported by the Wellcome Trust and Millennium Commission); City University’s School of Social Sciences (that includes clinical research spaces); as well as the nearby University of the Arts London in King’s Cross and the Clore Management Centre, also in Bloomsbury.

Stanton Williams embraced, and demonstrated how they will deliver, our vision to establish a world-class centre of excellence that will enable us to continue to attract international scientists, encourage collaboration between UCL and GOSH, strengthen our translational research activities and ultimately provide new and better treatments for children.
