Our values

Our values allow us to meet our mission to enhance the hospital’s ability to transform the health and well-being of children and young people, giving them the best chance to fulfil their potential.

  • Being Passionate
  • Being Collaborative
  • Being Accountable
  • Being Enterprising and
  • Being Respectful

Our values sit at the heart of who we are as an organisation and underpin everything we do, and how we do it, from our enterprising approach to fundraising through to the passion we show our supporters and the families, children and young people at the hospital. It’s all part of our charity being a great place to work and with our recent award of a two-star accreditation status by Best Companies for outstanding levels of employee engagement, we are well on our way to achieving this.

We hope that our values help to tell the story of how we work and what is important to us. We are proud that we work for such an incredible cause and are motivated to do our best. As a charity we are fortunate to be able to see first-hand the impact of the work that we do has at the hospital. Whether this is funds raised, research, helping at patient Christmas parties, or recruiting people like you to make all of this happen.

Our fundraising income is crucial to us, as it could enable life-changing research, treatment or redevelopment to take place at the hospital. Or, it might provide support to a family with a child or young person currently being treated.

This means, every action we take and decision we make is bound by great governance, ensuring we work to the highest possible standards. In practice this means we act responsibly, ethically and professionally, ensuring transparency and openness whenever possible. We want you to feel empowered to make decisions and to have ownership of the vital work that you do.

We have high standards and make sure we are as commercial as possible in our approach to raising funds and processing supporter money. We are always striving for the best, thinking of creative solutions to problems and approaching matters with agility. This means we embrace new ideas and work in a dynamic, forward thinking and resourceful way. We are open about mistakes that are made, so that we can learn from them and continually improve how we work.

We work in a very respectful environment where you can come up with ideas and give your feedback, feeling confident that your views will be heard. We value your expertise and contributions and welcome the insights that those joining the charity can bring. We respect your views and want you to feel comfortable challenging each other and questioning why and how we do things – there may well be a better way!

We work together, across the charity and with our partners to share learnings and successes, showing trust and respect towards each other. We want you to have a voice, sharing your thoughts and ideas in your team meetings, through our staff representatives, at lunch and learns and all staff gatherings. We speak with one voice and encourage everyone to look at ways to work together, both in your teams and across different teams, towards common goals.
