Formula 1 at Silverstone Circuit
Registration fee: £25 per person
Join us at Silverstone Circuit for one of the most exciting events in the Formula 1 calendar - the British Grand Prix. This is your chance to witness all the race action while raising vital funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Event information
As the official charity of the 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix, we are looking for volunteers to represent Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity at Silverstone on Sunday 3 July 2022 by bucket collecting around the circuit. Each volunteer will have a target of raising £300 for the charity – our top bucket collectors in 2019 raised over £1,000! To help reach this target, we recommend that volunteers do some pre-event fundraising, this could be anything from a Grand Prix sweepstake, to a cake sale at work. Volunteers will then have all day (7.30am to 5pm) to bucket-collect from the crowd at Silverstone
In return for your support, you will have access to our hospitality trailer where you will be provided with breakfast and a lunch, as well as snacks and drinks throughout the day. In addition, you will have the opportunity to watch all the racing action with the rest of the spectators.
How to apply
This is your opportunity to enjoy a fantastic day out whilst helping to raise money for the hospital. To secure your place, fill out the application form, and return it by email or post before Friday 3 June 2022.

Your place will be confirmed by email.
What is provided
On the day, we will provide entrance passes to Silverstone, charity-branded materials and a full breakfast, buffet lunch and refreshments in our hospitality trailer to keep everyone’s motors running. In addition, as we are not permitted to bucket collect during the races, volunteer’s will have the opportunity to watch all of the action with the rest of the spectators.
Things to consider
- All volunteers are required to pay a £25 registration fee, to secure their place.
- All volunteers are asked to arrive at Silverstone by 7.30am. This is to ensure that you are in place before the gates open to the public. Perhaps consider car-sharing schemes or hiring a minibus.
- All volunteers will need to be physically able as the Silverstone track is several miles long and you will be on your feet for much of the day.
- All volunteers will need to be proactive in collecting money by approaching race-goers and asking if they would like to donate to the charity. From our experience a passive approach does not work but a cheery, confident attitude does the trick!
- All volunteers will need to stay until the end of the day so that we can reach as many of the spectators as possible.
Where your money will go
The money raised will go towards ensuring Great Ormond Street Hospital continues to provide the best possible care to seriously ill children from across the UK. Donations help fund pioneering paediatric research, advanced equipment, creating a home-from-home through child and family support services, and the rebuilding and refurbishment of wards and medical facilities.
Previous years
We have welcomed 80 volunteers to Silverstone who collectively raised up to £40,000 over the weekend. Here, some volunteers share some feedback from the day:
"Taking part in the F1 Challenge was loads of fun, as a big fan of Formula 1 it was always going to be a great day out but the added experience of raising money for GOSH was brilliant. I had the opportunity to watch all the races and soak up the atmosphere, it was a great challenge for a very worthwhile cause and overall a really enjoyable experience that I would definitely recommend!" - Louise, F1 Challenge Volunteer
"What an incredible day from start to finish. The events team looked after everything from parking at the track, to sun cream (when the sun appeared) and the most delicious lunch! So much fun!" - Freya, F1 Challenge Volunteer
