What is RBC Race for the Kids?

RBC Race for the Kids is a 5K family fun run in Hyde Park on Saturday 10 October and the biggest mass participation event for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. Returning for the eleventh year in a row, this inclusive event will see thousands of people of all abilities walk, wheel, jog or run their way to the finish line to raise money and help to make a difference to the lives of seriously ill children from across the UK.

Why has the 2020 RBC Race for the Kids event been cancelled?

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s RBC Race for the Kids event, that was due to take place on Saturday 10 October 2020 in London’s Hyde Park.

This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly. RBC Race for the Kids is our flagship mass participation event and a much-loved staple in our fundraising calendar. However, the health and safety of our supporters, volunteers and staff comes first and, due to the devastating effects and continued uncertainty of the Coronavirus pandemic, we’re unable to go ahead with the event, as planned this year.

We aim to be back bigger than ever in 2021 and a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone for your understanding and continued support of the incredible, life-changing work at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

There are still other sporting events due to go ahead later in the year, why have you cancelled yours?

The health and safety of our supporters, volunteers and staff comes first.

The annual RBC Race for the Kids event normally brings thousands of people together to raise money for GOSH Charity, and that includes those who are more vulnerable. Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, we just didn’t feel it was right to go ahead with the event in its normal format this year, and have made the decision to cancel the event in the best interest of all those who were due to take part.

Can I get a refund for my registration fee?

Like other charities, GOSH Charity has been hit hard by the global pandemic and we’re facing lots of disruption to our fundraising activities. But the charity still needs your support to help GOSH deliver the very best in life-changing care to seriously ill children with rare and complex conditions.

Your registration fee helps to cover the cost of the event and, although we have worked hard to reduce the costs of cancelling the event, there inevitably have been some that are unavoidable. We would be incredibly grateful if you would consider your registration fee as a donation to GOSH Charity to continue supporting GOSH in its vital work.

If you’re happy for your registration fee to be gifted to the charity, we’ll take care of this for you – you don’t need to do a thing! We cannot thank you enough for your support. However, we appreciate that these are challenging times, so if you’re not able to donate your registration fee, we completely understand and can arrange a refund for you. Please email raceforthekids@gosh.org if you would like to request a refund.

If you have already signed up to the 2020 event, you will receive an email from the RBC Race for the Kids team detailing what you can do with your registration fee and further information.

If they are happy for their donation to be gifted to the charity, please let them know that it will still make a huge difference to the seriously ill children cared for at the hospital. However, if they would like a refund please ask them to email us directly at raceforthekids@gosh.org.
