75% of rare diseases affect children
Right now, one in three will die before their fifth birthday
Every day, 618 children and young people from across the UK arrive at GOSH. GOSH sees more seriously ill children with rare diseases than any other UK hospital. We have a responsibility to drive progress.
For some of these children, research is their only hope. And yet only 5% of public and charitable money spent on medical research in the UK is dedicated to children’s illnesses.
We urgently need to save more children with rare diseases and give them – and the adults they’ll become – a better chance in life. To do that, we need to help take research further than it’s ever gone before and push the boundaries of what’s possible in medicine. And we need to do it now.
