GOSH Heart Appeal

Help more children like April

April was only five months old when she had a heart attack. As soon as she got to GOSH, she was put in an induced coma and on ventilation. Two life-saving procedures were carried out in the Cardiac Catheter Suite to help the flow of blood to her heart until she was strong enough for open heart surgery.

Although April is doing well today, she’ll need to be monitored regularly and her mum, Estelle, hopes any further treatment could be in the updated Cardiac Catheter Suite.

Cardiac Catheter Suite Upgrade

Cardiac Catheter Suite Upgrade

Cardiac catheterisation uses advanced imaging techniques to guide the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions via a minute two-millimetre incision in the thigh – without the need for open heart surgery.

However, our Cardiac Catheter Suite needs upgrading. The radical renovation will transform the services GOSH can offer and help save even more young lives.

It means:

  • More precise images of tiny hearts
  • More life-saving procedures on premature babies
  • More key-hole operations
  • Less open-heart surgery
  • Less radiation for babies & children
  • Less invasive procedures

The GOSH Heart Appeal needs to raise £200,000 towards the £2.7million total cost for the Cardiac Catheter Suite upgrade, to allow our expert surgeons to carry out less invasive procedures on the smallest, most fragile hearts.

Saving more small hearts requires a big upgrade. With your help, we can help make a big difference to the smallest hearts and to help give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential.
