Disney Gorge to Gorge Challenge 2012
On 8 June 2012, 34 Disney cast members began a gruelling adventure across the Mendip Hills and Cheddar Gorge, in aid of the Disney Appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
The daring Gorge to Gorge team spent three days exploring the stunning Mendip hills in North Somerset.
The challenge included an exciting trek above the mighty Cheddar Gorge, an adrenaline fuelled abseil, a challenging cycle up some incredibly steep hills, and a Disney-themed treasure hunt across some of the country's finest and most ancient geological features.
Despite battling against wind, rain and countless steep hills, the group remained in good spirits throughout the weekend.
A fundraising achievement
Each participant was challenged to raise a minimum of £350. Together with individual sponsorship and fundraising events such as the Gorge to Gorge quiz, various bake sales and a successful Disney sample sale, the group exceeded their target and have raised over £20,000!
To celebrate this brilliant achievement, the team spent the final evening in a beautiful local pub before heading back to the campsite for a sing-song around the campfire.
The stunning Cheddar Gorge
Cheddar Gorge is one of England's most iconic and spectacular landscapes. At almost 400 feet deep and three miles long, this is England’s largest gorge, and with its weathered crags and pinnacles, one of our most spectacular natural sights.
The village of Cheddar is also famous for producing the world famous cheddar cheese, which the team took full advantage of before heading home to London!
