Experience GOSH in virtual reality

We'vecreated an immersive, virtual reality film to bring supporters into the hospital from the comfort of their own homes or offices.

The VR experience launched on 14 February 2019 – our 167th birthday – allowing viewers to access the experience on a variety of compatible digital devices, including desktops, tablets and mobile phones. GOSH treats seriously ill children from across the UK, and this VR experience will provide an opportunity for supporters from across the UK to see for themselves how their support could help GOSH Charity give children who are treated at GOSH the best chance for life.

Our charity version of the experience includes commentary about charity donations and the impact they have had on the hospital. There is a second version of the VR experience for patients and families to use, which focuses on the experience they can expect at the hospital – a useful tool for young patients who wish to familiarise themselves with the hospital.

Virtual visitors

The areas of the hospital that feature are:

  • Main entrance and reception
  • The hospital’s urology centre - Eagle Ward bay area and a patient bedroom on cardiac ward Bear Ward
  • The chapel
  • Two surgical theatres (10 and 11)
  • Research labs
  • The Turtle Imaging Suite and control room
  • A play room (Eagle Ward) and sensory room (Panther Ward)

GOSH Charity has also produced a version for use in Oculus Go VR headsets to be used at presentations and fundraising events (legacy and stewardship events, corporate presentations and gala events). These will provide people with the unique opportunity to explore the hospital as an immersive experience without having to physically be there.

The work for this was provided pro bono by the award-winning, virtual reality and creative production agency REWIND, who worked closely with the charity’s Digital Engagement team to produce a product of exceptional quality that brings GOSH to life.
