John Connolly will be standing down as Chair of the Board of Trustees at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity this year. Mr Connolly's four year tenure ended on 31 March 2019. It has been extended until September to provide continuity while a replacement is found.

Mr Connolly has a longstanding relationship with the charity. Prior to becoming Chair in April 2015 he was a Special Trustee and Chair for the Zayed Centre for Research into Rare Diseases in Children Appeal Board. He has also served on the Finance & Audit Committee.

Most recently Mr Connolly oversaw the appointment of the charity’s new CEO, Louise Parkes, who will join the organisation on 1 May.

Commenting on his time at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, the Chair said: "It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve as Chair of the charity. It does extraordinary things for a truly extraordinary cause.

“Over recent years, we have been able to create a board of exceptionally talented people with the range of skills needed to take the charity forward.

“The current fundraising environment is challenging and the needs of the hospital and the children and families it cares for are as great as ever. I am confident that the board, working with the new CEO, will more than rise to the challenge."

Work is now underway to appoint Mr Connolly’s successor.
