GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL CHILDREN’S CHARITY APPOINTS NEW CHAIR OF TRUSTEES

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity) has appointed Anne Bulford OBE as its new Chair of Trustees. Anne brings a wealth of experience from the commercial, public and charity sectors to the role. Anne was a member of the BBC Executive Board from 2013 to spring 2019, initially as Managing Director and then Deputy Director-General, the first woman to hold this post. Prior to this, Anne was Channel 4’s Chief Operating Officer, a role she took up after being Director of Finance and Business Affairs at the Royal Opera House.

Anne is an experienced trustee having held positions at BBC Children in Need and the Motor Neurone Disease Association. She has worked with Ofcom and the Ministry of Justice in non executive roles and is currently a non executive director of the newspaper group Reach plc, KPMG and the Army Board. She is also a member of University College London’s Gift Acceptance committee, having previously served as Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of the University.

Anne is a qualified chartered accountant and in 2012 she was awarded an OBE for services to UK broadcasting.

On being appointed Chair of Trustees for GOSH Charity, Anne Bulford OBE said: “I am thrilled to be joining GOSH Charity. During my time at Channel 4, when we ran the Comedy Gala in aid of the Charity, I was very fortunate to visit the hospital and see how the money we had raised was having an impact. I was very moved and inspired by the families and staff that I met and the experience has stayed with me.

“I am joining the Charity at an exciting time. The organisation is already very successful and I am really looking forward to working with Chief Executive Louise Parkes and the Board to explore new ways to amplify the support we give to the hospital and the children and young people it looks after, as well as paediatric research nationally.”

She brings a great deal of professional expertise as well as an energy and enthusiasm for the cause, all of which will be vital in enabling us to raise more funds to support seriously ill children from across the UK. “

In January 2017, children’s medical research charity Sparks entered into a partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to increase funding for pioneering and life-changing child health research. Anne will have oversight of Sparks as it is part of the GOSH Charity family.

Anne will take up the role in September and succeeds outgoing Chair John Connolly.
