Last week, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) celebrated RBC Charity Day for the Kids: a day to support children and youth across the globe.

Formerly known as RBC Trade for the Kids, this annual RBC employee event saw over $5 million donated to more than 50 youth-focused charities around the world.

The aim of the day was to share and celebrate the work of RBC’s charity partners. This includes work over the last year, with the COVID-19 pandemic having a significant impact on fundraising.

RBC employees took part in virtual activities and were able to hear a series of impactful messages from each charity partner.

To help engage RBC employees with GOSH Charity, GOSH families shared their stories and experiences of the hospital. They highlighted the need to fundraise in a year like no other.

Among these stories, RBC employees heard about GOSH patient Eden. Eden was treated at GOSH for a rare, aggressive type of cancer when she was just fourteen months old.

Alongside GOSH Charity, five other UK youth charities were beneficiaries of the day, including:

  • Teenage Cancer Trust
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities UK
  • Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity
  • Demelza Hospice Care for Children
  • Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice

"Proud to rally support for these worthy initiatives"

Derek Neldner, CEO and Global Head of RBC Capital Markets, said:

“There is a growing need to provide necessary support services and resources to navigate these extremely challenging times and RBC and its employees are proud to rally support for these worthy initiatives.

RBC Charity Day for the Kids is one of the many ways in which our employees and clients have the opportunity to learn more about supporting our youth through direct engagement with our charity partners.

We thank our charity partners for their commitment to helping revive our communities, as well as our employees and clients for living our culture of giving.”

A key event for the RBC and GOSH Charity partnership

RBC Charity Day for the Kids is one of the key annual events that celebrate the RBC and GOSH Charity partnership, which started in 2010.

All the money raised through the event will go towards supporting the hospital’s urgent needs.

This includes: vital rebuilding and refurbishment of the hospital, funding state-of-the-art medical equipment, support services for children and their families and pioneering research programmes.

Support from our partners has never been more vital

Louise Parkes, GOSH Charity’s chief executive, said:

“We are so proud of our longstanding relationship with Royal Bank of Canada and we’re grateful for all their incredible support over the last 11 years.

RBC’s Charity Day for the Kids is a really special event and we’re thrilled that GOSH Charity is benefiting from it again – all the money raised will make a huge difference to the lives of seriously ill children from across the UK and beyond.

The last year has been challenging for charities across the sector, so support from our partners like RBC has never been more vital.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”
