The Disney Reef, Great Ormond Street Hospital’s first children’s outdoor space, opens to patients

The Disney Reef, a colourful, underwater-themed outdoor play area has been unveiled at Great Ormond Street Hospital today.  GOSH Charity Children’s Champion and mum Tess Daly joined patients and their families as the new area was revealed for the first time. Joining her was four-year-old patient Elliott Livingstone, who received a heart transplant at GOSH in 2016.

Out of the bubble

Henry has severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), a group of rare, inherited disorders that affect the immune system. Patients like Henry often have to live in a sterile environment with a barrier between them and the outside world, giving rise to the term ‘bubble baby’ syndrome.

Henry was given a 10% chance of survival, until a bone marrow transplant from his older brother dramatically improved his condition. Henry’s mum, Maria, and three members of staff at GOSH who were instrumental in his care, share his story.

Meet Ben: Concert Violinist and Challenge Event extraordinaire

This year, Ben Knowles, a talented musician from Kent, set himself the challenge of a lifetime: to raise money for his student being treated for cystic fibrosis (CF) at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). A “fairly sedentary creature” up until last year, Ben completed a grand total of 10 endurance fundraising events April–September 2018, including a two-mile swim in the Serpentine!
