The GOSH Play team says:

"We all have the ability to create super powers that help us through life, like the power to celebrate the differences that us unique and amazing! Sometimes we all need a little help to do that. This activity supports children to see the positives in difference and how important listening to each other is."

For children, coping with an illness – or anything that makes them feel different – might not be easy at first.

Our differences make us stronger

Through play, you can help children to think about how our differences make us stronger.

In Freddie and the Fairy by Julia Donaldson and Karen George, Bessie-Belle’s hearing aid gives her the power to hear and help Freddie out with his wishes.

Our Play team has put together an activity to help your child celebrate what gives them the power to do something, just like Bessie-Belle’s hearing aid.

Download the activity sheet to get started. If you don’t have a copy of the book you could see if your local library has one in stock. If they don’t, you can ask them to order one in for you. The activity sheet can be lots of fun without the book, too!

For children who use Makaton signing to communicate, Ellie from the Play team has signed the full story in this video.
