GOSH Christmas Pioneer Appeal

GOSH Christmas Pioneer Appeal

Help seriously ill children get one step closer to home.

Our staff at GOSH do their best to make it as magical as possible for the children whose hospital treatment must continue over the festive season. Just £25 could make a huge difference to seriously ill children, including Daniel, who spent one Christmas at GOSH after being diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome.

Daniel's Story

Four year old Daniel was diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, a rare genetic immunodeficiency that keeps a child’s immune system from functioning properly, when he was around 12 weeks’ old. He spent his first Christmas at home in 2022 after spending his first three Christmases in hospital.

When Daniel arrived at GOSH in 2019, his family was told he would need a bone marrow transplant, but he unfortunately developed Graft-Versus-Host-Disease and had to undergo a second transplant.

Despite the daunting prospect of spending Christmas in hospital, the teams at GOSH do their best to bring the magic of Christmas onto the wards to make it feel like a home from home for children like Daniel and their families. Decorations appear on the wards, there are seasonal activities, and everyone does their best to bring the magic of Christmas to those children who are too poorly to go home. Father Christmas comes to visit, and the Play team ensure every child has presents to open on Christmas morning. None of this could happen without your support.

Daniel is still closely monitored by the teams at GOSH, and got to spend his first Christmas at home in 2022! You can read more about Daniel's story here.

“It was a really lovely atmosphere…there were so many lovely decorations up, everyone just made extra effort. On Christmas Day, all the staff were wearing special Christmassy things in their hair, it was as cheery as it could be”.

As part of our Pioneer appeal, we would love if you could help us spread festive cheer to the children, families and staff at GOSH when you make your donation. Simply use the box at the top of the page to send a special Christmas stocking message. These messages will be displayed throughout the hospital and will help make it feel like home from home over the festive period.
