Getting the word out there is the secret to a successful fundraising event!

We have tips below to help you advertise your event in lots of different ways.

Promote in your community

Spread the word in your street, school, workplace or community with our easy to make bunting and posters to show you're raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. It's a fun way to get any kids involved too! Download our poster with the purple GOSH logo or our border poster design.

Maximise your fundraising online

  • Doing a run or walk? Connect the running app, Strava, to your JustGiving page so people can see the hard work you're putting in. Find out more with JustGiving
  • Add a livestream directly from YouTube, Mixer or Twitch to your fundraising page so people can see you in action whilst they donate. From shaving your hair off to hosting a pub quiz, live streaming allows you to broadcast live to your friends and family as you fundraise. Find out more and get inspired.

Social networking

Facebook, Twitter/X and YouTube have revolutionised the way people fundraise and we’re big fans! Remember – the people most likely to donate are your friends, so social media is a great place to start publicising what you’re doing.

Facebook

Facebook is the best way to keep everyone in the loop about your fundraising and brings in more visits to JustGiving pages than any other social media! Here’s some top tips:

  • Tell your story on your JustGiving page and use Facebook to share why you’ve chosen to fundraise for us.
  • Update your status with your JustGiving link or news about your fundraising so that it appears on your friends’ Facebook timelines
  • Post photos or videos of your event or challenge on your wall
  • Thank everyone after your event

Twitter / X

Twitter/X is a great place to spread to word. Ask your friends to retweet you: if your tweets are interesting enough, news of what you’re doing could spread fast. Make sure that you:

  • Tell people what you’re doing eg. I’m hosting a quiz for @GOSHCharity in 2 days – join me!
  • Include a link to your JustGiving page – you can shorten the link by visiting bit.ly
  • Add photos or videos to make your tweet more interesting
  • Follow @GOSHCharity on Twitter/X and use #TeamGOSH in your tweets. We’ll like and comment on your tweet, too!

YouTube

Whether it’s a face-to-camera personal message or an emotive or entertaining home video posted on YouTube, it is guaranteed to encourage donations. This gives you the chance to be as creative and quirky as you like and to add your personal touch. You never know, you might go viral!

  • make a video and upload it to YouTube
  • keep it original and short. You can also upload this to your online fundraising page so everyone can see what you are doing and why
  • post the links to this on your Facebook page and talk about it in your Twitter/X feed.

Instagram

Instagram is for everything visual. It’s a great way to share images and videos before, during and after your event from your phone: Don't forget to tag us! @greatormondst

  • share regular updates with your circle of followers, family and friends
  • include your fundraising page link on your posts and in your profile description to encourage visitors to donate
  • use hashtags so people can easily tag and search for images and videos from your event
  • ask family and friends to share your posts through Twitter and Facebook, or using the Share URL

Email signatures

If you use email a lot, our downloadable email signatures will encourage some extra interest if you're doing a virtual run, cycle or walking challenge. When you add your image, make sure to add a link to your fundraising page too.
