Peter Pan

Peter Pan

Peter Pan – the boy who would not grow up – has been helping other children to grow up for over 70 years.

And on 5 October 2006, author Geraldine McCaughrean's authorised sequel to this much-loved tale was published.

Thanks to the generosity of Peter Pan's author, J M Barrie, who gave the copyright of his children’s classic to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in April 1929, the magical story has brought fairytale endings for many sick children treated here.

How much money Peter Pan has raised for GOSH over the years remains a tightly-guarded secret, according to Barrie's wishes. But thanks to the enduring popularity of Peter, Wendy and Tinker Bell, not forgetting Captain Hook and the ticking crocodile, the hospital’s charity can look forward to many more years of public support.

Peter Pan himself turned 100 in 2004, and to mark his centenary, the hospital’s charity organised a year of celebrations. See our anniversary page for more details.
