RBC Race for the Kids 2020

RBC Race for the Kids 2020 has been cancelled.

RBC Race for the Kids 2020

We are sad to announce that our flagship mass participation event, RBC Race for the Kids 2020 has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

RBC Race for the Kids 2020, sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada, was due to take place in London’s Hyde Park on Saturday, 10 October. This is the first time in the event’s 11-year history that it will not be able to go ahead.

Last year’s event saw 10,000 people take part in London’s Hyde Park raising over £1 million for seriously ill children from across the UK, who are treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Since 2010, RBC Race for the Kids has raised over £7 million, which has gone towards funding the hospital’s most urgent needs.

A message from our Chief Executive, Louise Parkes: “Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s RBC Race for the Kids 2020 event.

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly. RBC Race for the Kids is our flagship mass participation event and a much-loved highlight in our fundraising calendar. Not only that, it’s a special day where patients, staff and supporters come together to raise vital funds for the hospital. The health and safety of everyone participating, our supporters, volunteers and staff comes first and we therefore took the decision not to bring thousands of people together at this time, especially those who are more vulnerable.

“We’re really sorry for our participants who hoped to join this year and would like to say a huge, heartfelt thank you to all our supporters who are helping us through this difficult time. Like other charities, we are facing disruption to our fundraising activities due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but the hospital needs the charity’s support more than ever to help it to continue to deliver the best, life-saving care to seriously ill children both now and once this crisis is over.

“RBC Race for the Kids, London is one of 18 RBC Race for the Kids events created by Royal Bank of Canada and we’re really pleased that this year’s series is going virtual for the first time. This will mean we can continue to fundraise and keep the spirit of the Race despite having to cancel the physical event. More information will be released soon, so please look out for an announcement shortly.”

Together, you and your family will have the chance to get involved and take on the classic 5k distance, or a distance of your choice, to support and celebrate GOSH.
