Healthcare funding governance
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity) exists to transform the lives of seriously ill children. We bring hope of better treatments to children with the rarest and most complex illnesses, in the UK and around the world, by investing in groundbreaking research at Great Ormond Street Hospital and nationally.
We also fund patient, family and staff support; cutting-edge medical equipment; the building and refurbishment of child-centred facilities; technology and innovation; and clinical service transformation at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Together, these initiatives make up our Healthcare Funding Portfolio.
With this comes a significant responsibility to ensure funding is directed in the most effective way. For this reason, we have a robust healthcare governance process in place to ensure the projects we fund deliver the highest possible impact for patients and their families.
Healthcare Panel
The Healthcare Panel is made up of healthcare professionals from across the UK, alongside Lived Experience Experts.
Lived Experience Experts are individuals who use their personal knowledge and experience to contribute to and inform decision-making processes. The Lived Experience Experts on our Panel have experience of personal or family involvement in paediatric healthcare, either as a patient or as someone who has closely supported a child receiving care.
The Panel reviews all patient and family experience funding applications.
The role of the panel is to:
- Assess applications for healthcare funding.
- Make recommendations to the Grants & Impact Committee and the Director of Impact and Charitable Programmes, ensuring proposals demonstrate clear potential for patient benefit and align with the relevant funding scheme, charity strategies and frameworks.
- Evaluate the progress and impact of charity-funded projects against agreed objectives.
- Provide expert advice and support on the paediatric healthcare landscape, helping to ensure the charity’s funding delivers maximum benefit for patients and families
