The Little Book of Big Play

Because play isn’t just fun – it’s powerful.

Here at Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity), we know that big feelings come in all shapes and sizes. And whether your child is feeling excited, happy, sleepy or worried, play can help them express themselves, explore the world around them safely, and grow. It can also help kids connect with their friends, siblings and you.

But most importantly of all, it can help them relax and just get on with enjoying themselves.

“Play helps children understand what’s happening to them. It gives them tools to cope. It gives them joy.”

Charlotte, Play Specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH)

We hope you and your family are enjoying The Little Book of Big Play, created in collaboration with the GOSH Play team.

The Play team helps make hospital a little bit easier and a lot funner for the thousands of children treated here every year.

They understand that play is a serious business – and how to make sure it always works for the children taking part.

The team offers children spaces to play, explore and express themselves. This might be through an arts and craft session, an imaginative moment, sharing a story, or creating a Lego model. They know exactly how to help you get your little ones (and big ones!) playing creatively.

Your generous donation will help fund groundbreaking research, cutting-edge medical equipment, and the building and refurbishment of child-centred facilities.

You'll also help to fund Play specialists and play resources, so kids can enjoy magical childhood moments, even when they're seriously ill.
