Can you help us raise £85,000 for vital medical technology to treat children with life-threatening, genetic heart diseases?
If children have a heart attack or go into respiratory failure, doctors need precious time to deliver the best treatment. The ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine is a lifesaver, giving medical teams time to think about the best treatment for the child.
Lucie had heart failure when she was just two years old. “The ECMO machine saved her life,” Lucie’s mum Joanna says.
When the ECMO machine took over the work of Lucie’s heart and lungs, her doctors had time to consider the options. Lucie went on to have a successful heart transplant.
Sadly, her family had to go through the same trauma a few years later with her younger sister, Isobel, who had inherited the same defective family gene.
But thanks to the ECMO machine, Lucie and Isobel were given the precious time they needed and now both have a bright future to look forward to.
Your support will help buy precious time for critically ill children like Lucie and Isobel.
Time for their hearts and lungs to recover. Time for doctors to consider the next steps. Time to live a full life beyond recovery.
