- World-famous content creator to front online whodunnit-style mystery event, raising vital funds to help Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) build a new Children’s Cancer Centre
YouTube star TommyInnit is set to host Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity’s (GOSH Charity) first-ever livestreamed fundraiser this month, raising vital funds to help build a world-leading new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
The leading gamer and content creator, who has more than 50 million followers across his platforms, will front The Curious Case of the Copper Key on 18 October - an interactive whodunnit-style livestream. Viewers will work together in real time to solve the mystery, alongside a cast of popular content creators including TikTok stars Abbie Budden, Imogen Andrews and Henry Calvert, and YouTubers MatPat (formerly of the Game Theorists) and Keith Habersberger (Try Guys).
The gripping story follows six suspects who have already claimed the mysterious key - but viewers must work out who it really belongs to and what it opens.
TommyInnit, aka Tom Simons, was inspired to support GOSH Charity’s £300m Build it. Beat it. appeal after losing his close friend and fellow YouTube star, Technoblade, to cancer in 2022. Technoblade shared with fans that he had been diagnosed with metastatic sarcoma in 2021 and he sadly passed away the following year, aged 23.
His loss inspired Tom to use his online platforms to raise vital funds and awareness to help in the fight against cancer. Earlier this year, Tom also visited GOSH to meet families and hear first-hand how the new cancer centre will transform cancer care for children from across the UK.
Viewers taking part in GOSH Charity’s livestream next month, hosted on TommyInnit’s YouTube and Twitch channels, are encouraged to make a donation to release more clues that will help crack the case, with all funds going towards building the new, state-of-the-art Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH.
GOSH already treats the highest number of children with cancer in the UK, but recent advances have outstripped its current facilities and it needs a new home to develop more breakthroughs.
The new centre will bring together pioneering research, cutting-edge treatments and child-centred care under one roof to give more children hope of beating cancer once and for all.
Tom said: “Supporting GOSH Charity’s Build it. Beat it. appeal means so much to me.
“Losing my close friend Technoblade to cancer reminded me just how devastating this disease is. By coming together online for this event and solving this curious mystery (with the help of a few famous faces) we can help build a new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH and give more children the chance of a brighter future.”
Sarah Bissell, Deputy Director of Relationship Fundraising at GOSH Charity, said: “We’re thrilled to be launching GOSH Charity’s first-ever livestreamed fundraiser fronted by the incredible TommyInnit.
“As well as being the first time in our own organisation’s history that we’ve put on a fundraiser of this kind, it’s also the first UK charity-led livestream fundraiser and it’s been so exciting to delve into this new world. We know the potential is there, and it’s crucial that we raise as much money as we can to help build the future of children’s cancer care. We are looking forward to reaching Tommy’s fans and puzzlers with this fresh, exciting and inspiring format.
“Each day, children arrive at GOSH facing the toughest cancer diagnoses, and every penny raised through this event will take us a step closer to building a new Children’s Cancer Centre - a place designed to give seriously ill children the best chance, and childhood, possible.”
