Ava takes on a challenge for GOSH

On 2 July, patient Ava and her friend Tilly, are taking part in the Great Newham London Family Run.

Ava and Tilly will don their trainers and running vests to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.

Family fun run

The family fun run will be a huge challenge for Ava, who has cystic fibrosis, and who has never run a long distance like this before. Tilly will be on hand to support Ava through the challenge and the girls are both really looking forward to crossing the finish line together.

Ava trains for the event

Ava said: “I’m both nervous and excited – ‘nervexcited’ – that could be a new word!

“I know it’s going to be fun, which is why I decided to take part. I’m looking forward to crossing the finish line with Tilly as a team! It feels odd to be raising money for my own Hospital, but I know that I’m doing something good for the other children.”

In preparation for the run, Ava said: “I’m doing physio every day as that’s good for my lungs. I’m also going to do some training with Tilly. She doesn’t have cystic fibrosis.”

Ava had a tip for other people taking part: “Just look at the finish line and focus on crossing it. And have fun too!”
