Patients enjoy a rocking time

Christmas party - Brodie (patient) and Chloe (his sister) meet Tess Daly
Two thousand patients and families had a rocking time with reindeers at this year’s Christmas party, held at the Royal National Hotel.

The event, which ran over two days, was enjoyed by patients and families who are being, or have been, treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the last year.

Celebrities who helped everybody get in the party mood included Oliver and James Phelps (the Weaslies), Twist and Pulse (from Britain’s Got Talent), Tess Daly, and Radio 1 DJs (Chris Moyles, Edith Bowman, Sara Cox, Huw Stephens, Nick Grimshaw, Annie Mac, Aled Hayden Jones, Comedy Dave, Greg James and Gemma Cairney), Stavros Flatley, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton, Anna Popplewell, Freema Agyeman and Pixie Lott.

During the parties the children made Christmas crafts, decorated cookies and met Father Christmas and people dressed up as superheroes, fairies, elves and princesses.  They each received an amazing goody bag of toys.

The party, planned by Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, is the best Christmas present for those patients who have to miss their own celebrations because they are in hospital during the festive season and also an enjoyable day out for other patients treated at the hospital within the last year.

"Two thousand patients and their families have enjoyed this year’s Christmas party.  And for those who are still in hospital or face being in over Christmas it has been an extra special boost.

"Watching the celebrities and characters bring joy to the children has been amazing.  We are extremely grateful to all the celebrities, generous companies and volunteers who have played such an important role in bringing smiles to the faces of our patients and their families."
Tim Johnson, Executive Director of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity

"I just wanted to thank you, and everyone involved, in the fantastic parties.  An unbelievable amount of hard work and organisation have gone into making them such a success - my son and his little brother had a wonderful time. Thank you so much.
