Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announced today that it is getting behind the Give to GOSH appeal for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) with a donation of £100,000, which will directly help seriously ill children from across the UK.

The announcement comes on the same day that GOSH announces that 2016’s RBC Race for the Kids fun run will be bigger and better than ever before. This year’s race will take place for the first time at the home of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford.

Race for the Kids

Suitable for all ages and abilities, this inclusive event takes place on Sunday 15 May 2016 and will see children, parents and grandparents run, walk or jog around the iconic 5 km course in support of the world-famous children’s hospital. Participants can join individually or in teams and with post-race activities and entertainment, it’s a great day out for all.

RBC became the title sponsor of the RBC Race for the Kids in 2010, since then the Race has grown considerably from 620 participants raising £22,000 to 6,000 participants raising over £1 million in 2015. In total, the RBC Race for the Kids has raised £3.7 million for GOSH, with RBC employees, friends and family contributing £1.6 million to this total through their fundraising efforts.

In addition to their sponsorship, RBC has raised over £1.6 million for the hospital with employees and clients fundraising for the fun run and the annual RBC Ride for the Kids, a London to Paris cycle challenge. In 2015, GOSH recognised RBC with the Friends of Adeona distinction – the highest form of recognition that GOSH can bestow on its supporters.

Tim Johnson, Chief Executive of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity said: “Royal Bank of Canada is a fantastic friend to the hospital, helping year on year to make our RBC Race for the Kids event such a success and now kicking off 2016 with such a generous donation to the Give to GOSH appeal. Our partnership is growing from strength to strength and we look forward to hosting an enjoyable RBC Race for the Kids fun run in the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in May.”

Dave Thomas, CEO, RBC Capital Markets, Europe said: “We are excited to begin 2016 by showing our continued support for GOSH through this £100,000 donation to the Give to GOSH appeal. We have worked in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity for over six years with the RBC Race for the Kids becoming our flagship sponsorship event in London, giving the public a great opportunity to help the hospital’s young patients. Last year’s Race raised more than £1 million, which includes more than £360,000 from our employee’s fundraising activities, and we expect this year’s event to break even more records.”

Give to GOSH

Donate to the Give to GOSH appeal here to help support some of the hospital’s most urgent needs. These include the creation of a specialist unit helping children in urgent need of a heart transplant, and funding research programmes which aim to find new cures and treatments for children with rare diseases. The Give to GOSH appeal will also help to fund the patient and family support programme at the hospital, and the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care, for patients who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
